    Reducing excess food, removing visible snails and using a reusable baited trap can all help bring numbers under control without adding a snail-killing treatment to the aquarium.

    The most effective approach starts with understanding why the snail population increased in the first place.

    Where Do Aquarium Snails Come From?

    It is common for aquarium owners to suddenly notice snails despite never intentionally buying any.

    Small snails and their eggs can enter an aquarium unnoticed on:

    • live aquatic plants
    • decorations
    • rocks
    • transferred substrate
    • equipment moved between aquariums
